'Jurassic Park 4' Still in the Works With an Official Director

Though it has been hibernating long enough that the world thought it was extinct, “Jurassic Park 4” is springing back to life with an official director.

Colin Trevorrow will be bringing us the fourth installment of the dinosaur flicks. It is a pretty serious promotion for Trevorrow, whose only other directed film was “Safety Not Guaranteed.”

The quirky flick earned him a nomination for an Independent Spirit Award for Best First Feature.

Apparently, despite his short resume, the studio and attached filmmakers think Trevorrow is a great match for the flick. He admits to being a huge fan of the trilogy, and producers feel he will “preserve and protect” their characters.

Universal will release the film, with “Rise of the Planet of the Apes” writers Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver on the script. Frank Marshall and Patrick Crowley are producing, with Steven Spielberg himself executive producing. The film will be shot in 3-D and aims to hit theaters in June of next year.

Little is known at this point, however, about the plot details or casting, though Frank Marshall reassured Twitter followers “All’s well on JP4, updates soon.”

Laura Dern, who played Dr. Ellie Sattler in the 1993 original, has said that she is not sure whether the original cast will be asked to return, or whether she would accept if an offer was made.

“I know a little and it’s been ever-changing,” she said. “It’s been evolving for many years as Steven has been considering it so that’s all I can say right now.”

Until more is known, fans can build suspense by re-watching the original film, set to be released in 3-D April 5th.
